There are many roads leading to Brooman

There are pros and cons of each route, but all options are mostly dirt roads.
Each route is suitable for 4WD or sedan, if driven to the conditions. 


Dirt road quality can vary depending on weather, and grading of surfaces by Shoalhaven Council. Check here for Brooman road closures & works in 2024 

The House known as Mrs Myers (with a green tin roof) is the main meeting spot for workers or campers: 1325 The River Road, Brooman, NSW 2538. Look for a wooden house with a green tin roof, around a bend but visible from Brooman Village. Open in Google Maps 


Route options are (see detailed instructions below):  

  1. From Termeil (offering the least amount of dirt road): Old Princes Hwy, Middle Ridge, River Road. 
  2. From Nelligen area: Shallow Crossing: The River Rd (or Black Flat Rd), Currowan Crossing, Shallow Crossing, River Rd to Burroman and Brooman.  
  3. From Milton: Croobyar, Woodburn, Brooman Rd, River Rd, Brooman, Burroman.  
  4. From the Princes Highway: East Lyne, Old Princes Hwy, Barkshed, River Rd, Burroman, Brooman.  
  5. via Boarding house road: 
  6. Sheep Track Road (a variation of above): Old Princes Highway, The Sheep Track Road, The River Road, Burroman, Brooman. 


Mobile phone reception is limited (edge of reception zone) please save a copy of directions, download maps or print this page in preparedness. There are many tales of Google Maps taking people off into the nearby hills, it really does get lost, hence spelling it out here. 


From Termeil: (offering the least amount of dirt road) Old Princes Hwy, Middle Ridge, River Road.

  • At the Termeil petrol station, (close to Bawley Point turn off), take the tar road beside it and go approx 2.1km up the hill. 
  • Turn into Old Coach Road (dirt) which becomes Middle Ridge road on the right and travel approx 9km to a T intersection. (You will pass a fork and Bimbimi property entrance on your right, (Coach road going up the hill) stay on the main road and continue past Four Mile Forest Road).  There are yellow distance markers for 7 & 8 km. 
  • At the T intersection of  “The River Road” “Brooman Road” and “Middle Ridge Road” * For Brooman: Turn Left onto River Road if heading to Brooman and Borroman Flat.  * For Toombooloo: Turn Right and use Brooman Road for 1.1km.  
  • If proceeding to Brooman/ Burroman Flat you will pass a wooden “Brooman” sign for the village. Continue past a collection of wooden historic logger cottages nested on a hill opposite a deep swimming hole. From there you can see the green roof house at 1325 River Road.  35°28'11.4"S 150°14'19.3"E  
  • Instructions to Burroman, see below.


From Nelligen area: Shallow Crossing: The River Rd (or Black Flat Rd), Currowan Crossing, Shallow Crossing, River Rd to Burroman and Brooman. 

  • Going down the Clyde mountain on Kings Highway towards Batemans Bay, 
  • Turn left at Black Flat Road, signposted Shallow Crossing. It is before reaching Nelligen pub and the Big4 Nelligen camping ground. 
  • This route (mostly dirt) winds along beside the Clyde River and passes across Currowan Creek and through 'Shallow Crossing', a water crossing next to a popular campground.  
  • Turn left onto River Road and continue to follow along beside the Clyde River. 
  • There are many roads and fire trails, stay on River Road and continue following the Clyde River. This will lead you past the Burroman Gate, the Green tin roof house and to Brooman Village. 
  • Note: Please access river and tides, water levels and conditions for your personal safety. Further notes are in the Sightseeing Kayaking section.  


From Milton: Croobyar, Woodburn, Brooman Rd, River Rd, Brooman, Burroman. 

  • From Milton take Croobyar Road going inland 
  • Turn left onto Woodstock Road, travel through Woodburn and Morton.
  • Continue on Woodburn Road until the intersection of Woodburn, Monkey Mountain Road and Brooman Road.  
  • Continue on Brooman Rd, at the corner or Carisbrook Road, veer left.  
  • See step 3 in the Termeil to Brooman instructions if your destination is Brooman, Burroman Flat or Toombooloo. ie; "At the T intersection of  “The River Road” “Brooman Road” and “Middle Ridge Road” "  
  • If travelling to Brooman or Burroman this road becomes The River Road and leads to the Village or meeting address. 


From the Princes Highway: East Lynne, Old Princes Hwy, Barkshed, River Rd, Burroman, Brooman.

  • Turn inland just south of East Lynne store on to Old Princes Highway.  
  • Turn left into Barkshed Road 
  • Turn right onto The River Road.  
  • This will lead you past the Burroman Gate, the Green tin roof house and to Brooman Village.  


A variation on the Termeil or East Lynne option with a different entrance off the Highway. 

  • Turn off at Boarding house road then follow Termeil or East Lynne instructions. 
  • Termeil: Turn into Old Coach Road (dirt) which becomes Middle Ridge Rd... 
  • East Lynne: Join Old Princes Highway...


A variation on the Termeil or East Lynne option with Sheep Track Road winding along the ridge of the mountain. 

  • Old Princes Highway, The Sheep Track Road, The River Road, Burroman, Brooman. 


  • From Brooman village or green roof house continue driving a further few km south towards Nelligen/Batemans Bay.
  • This takes you past a large shed, up a hill, (where internet is good) then down a somewhat windy dirt road. 
  • At the bottom is a concrete bridge (might be covered in red soil) and the start of the campsite paddock. 
  • Drive 500m up the rise to a gate on the right hand side. It overlooks a large paddock where you can see a row of trees beside the creek, campsites are nestled in this area. 
  • Number 1 is at the northern end and number 8 at the Southern end.


  • Drive north on The River Road towards Milton/Termeil until you arrive at the T intersection of “The River Road” “Brooman Road” and “Middle Ridge Road”  
  • Stay straight ahead with the road changing name to Brooman Road. 
  • The entrance is 1.1km. from this corner on your left.
